ONE OF MERIWETHER COUNTY's BEST LUNCH & CATERING.

Our Story

This story started long ago when I was about 12 years old. I was the youngest of three. My parents were wonderful and with three boys to raise, there was no extra money. Because they expected us to work hard for our money, we all spent our summers working in the garden, cutting grass, and chopping wood for the winter.

By the time I had cut a few piles of wood, I realized that I had to do something different. Since I enjoyed cooking, I started baking cakes and selling them at my Grandmother's beauty shop in town. Soon I was taking orders for holidays and birthdays. I remember many times baking until 2:00 in the morning with my mother and Aunt Alice helping me.

When I was 15 years old I began working at The Bulloch House in Warm Springs. One of my best friends, Larkin Hudson Cunningham, also worked there and had referred me. I worked one day and the next day Judy called me into the office. I couldn’t believe that I had already been called into the office when I didn’t remember doing anything wrong! She asked me about my interest and abilities in the kitchen. From then on I was either in the kitchen with Sylvia or on the buffet with Charles. My life with Judy, Charles and Sylvia had begun. The restaurant was very busy and I spent a lot of time there with them when I wasn’t in school. They helped me so much and they also considered me one of their own children.

As they got older the physical demands of that large restaurant began to be just too much. A blessing came to them; someone offered to purchase the restaurant. An offer was made that could not be turned down. I was the manager at that time and stayed on as long as I could. I just didn’t enjoy it anymore. Many changes were being implemented, so I decided to join in with the change and leave.

Once I left I told my wife, Kim, that I was going to pursue another profession and leave the restaurant business all together. Kim always supported my decisions and trusted that I would provide for our family. We had just built a new home and we had one daughter, Addison. Our son, Grayson, was on the way, but Kim still trusted me. We both trust the Lord and knew he would provide our needs. Believe me- the plan was to find a job quickly! The pressure was on.

The economy had bottomed out and jobs were not easy to find. Then one day a former customer called my home and asked if I would prepare their Thanksgiving dinner! I was a little shocked and told her no. I explained that I didn’t want to do that anymore and I was sorry. I began to pray about the decision I had made and hoped that I had done the right thing. I never heard a voice but I realized after looking over all our bills that maybe I would make this meal for them!

That family started telling their friends and one thing led to another. Soon we were very busy filling orders. I had to call in friends and family to help me fill those orders. This is how Dinner’s Ready began.

We found a wonderful little place that had been a pharmacy with a drive-thru. The building had recently been renovated to a fast food chicken joint. They didn’t stay long and when it became available we checked it out. We loved it and have been here since.

What makes this place so special is that some of my best friends have joined me in this endeavor. Today I work right beside the same fine people that I have worked with since the beginning of my career at the Bulloch House; These are people who know what this business is all about. And, when he is not too busy, Charles even comes by to make sure I am doing what I'm supposed to do and to visit with his old customers.

Not only are they amazing, but Charles daughter, Lisa actually have had to run the restaurant for me. In 2012 I was diagnosed with cancer. I was unable to work while receiving treatments and neither was Kim because she was taking care of me. After 21 rounds of chemo, I am as good as new! I am so thankful for my family at work and the support of all the customers. It amazes me how my plans were so different than God's plans, but I surely am glad He is in control.
